Ever since I bought my home 11 years ago, with its big sloping backyard, I knew I’d want to develop the unused space someday. I contacted West Coast Building and Design, and we brainstormed together. One year later, we have transformed the space into a beautifully manicured one-bedroom ADU that looks like it should be in a Pottery Barn advertisement. With vaulted ceilings, polished bathroom tile, and sleek matching cabinets and countertops in the kitchen and bath, I almost want to move in to the space myself and rent out my main home instead.

Of course with any project of this magnitude, there were hiccups and challenges. Trenching in the utilities was one of several major hurdles. But Rene and his team were always responsive, solution-oriented, and willing to soldier on. I made various changes to the design plans along the way, but these were always accommodated. Special shoutouts to Kevin, Rigo & AJ, as well! You guys went above and beyond, and I’m forever grateful to all of you. I think the before and after photos speak for themselves!

We selected West Coast Building and Design to demolish an existing detached garage and build a custom, Spanish style, 2-story structure with a garage on the first floor and ~1,000 sq foot grandparent’s suite on the second story. It was a complicated build and we are incredibly happy with the results. Not only are we happy with the results, Rene stayed on budget and was great at communicating, reasonable and helped guide us through the process. I hired West Coast Building and Design to build a multi-generation complex for my family.  This review is part 1 of 3 projects.  The first project was for a 1200 square ft ADU where I would live.  When we first started the ADU the projection for completion was 6 months.  Unfortunately, we were just at the tail end of the pandemic and there were many delays from the city, SDG&E, supply chain issues and an unusually very rainy season. I’m grateful to have had Rene as the builder because he found ways to work around some of these issues.  He listened to what I wanted – even if it meant changing and redoing a few things.  I am now living in my beautiful home.

Rene and his team built our 750 sq ft ADU. They took care of all permits, design, plans, and construction. Our project was quite complex including over 150 ft of trenching operations surrounding our entire main house and navigating the large number of state and local regulations regarding the upgrade of our electrical panel. Rene always displayed the highest level of integrity throughout the project and in the end it came out much better than we thought it would.
